On the sidelines of World Children’s Day celebrations, Naby Keïta, UNICEF Ambassador, visited pupils at the Cité de Solidarité school. The Guinean international shared an emotional moment with the visually impaired children.
‘We see clearly with the heart, the rest is invisible,’ as the saying goes. The captain of the Syli National football team, in his role as ambassador for the UN children’s agency, visited the Cité de Solidarité in Taouyah, Conakry, the Guinean capital, on Friday 22 November 2024.
The aim of this visit by the former 2019 European champion was to bring smiles back to the faces of visually impaired students. Concerned about children’s education, Naby Keïta spoke about this noble cause: “With UNICEF, we are fighting to help children go to school, we are fighting for a good education for children. (…) We have a big project, you’ll see it soon,” said Naby Keïta.
The captain of the Syli National also took part in some sporting activities with these visually impaired students. It was a moment of great emotional intensity, as the Guinean midfielder testified: “I felt the emotion, I put myself in their shoes. I had tears in my eyes. People who are normal have no right to complain. It’s pitiful. That’s why we’re here today with UNICEF to help children, even normal people,” he insisted.
The director of the Sogué Centre for the Visually Impaired, while expressing his expectations, did not hide his satisfaction at having received the captain of the Syli National team: “We are very proud, very happy. Naby Keïta is everything you know. We thank him for being here. And we ask him to support the school in every way,” said Kamano Jean.
